Dr. Kenneth Aldape
M.D.

Macfeeters-Hamilton

Dr. Aldape is the Director of the MacFeeters-Hamilton Neuro-oncology Program and is a neuropathologist with a research interest in primary brain tumors. He has experience with identification of biomarkers in gliomas, including microarray studies. He has identified a mesenchymal subgroup of glioma, which may be related to microenvironmental factors. He identified the relationship of IDH mutation and epigenetic changes in DNA methylation (G-CIMP). His work characterizes brain tumor subtypes as well as identifies clinically relevant molecular alterations in these tumors to advance how these tumors are understood and better classified in order to promote precision medicine for brain tumors.

Sheela Purandhara
Administrative Assistant

Is an Administrative Assistant who manages the academic activities of the MacFeeters-Hamitlon Neuro-oncology Program.

Julie Metcalf
Ph.D.

Her focus in the lab is on investigating the role of the tumour microenvironment in glioma angiogenesis.  She’s utilizing both in-vitro and in-vivo models to study the effects of tumour-associated macrophages on endothelial cells in an effort to better understand the molecular mechanisms that drive angiogenesis and identify novel therapeutic targets for anti-angiogenic therapy.

When she is not at the lab she enjoys baking, biking, camping, fishing, and snowboarding.

Mira Li
Research Technician

Mira has been with the Zadeh Lab since 2014. Her interests in the lab are centered on developing mouse glioma models and understanding glioma metabolism.

Outside of the lab Mira enjoys yoga and exploring all that Toronto’s foodie scene has to offer.

Lynn Nowen
Medical Administrative Assistant

Lynn manages Dr. Zadeh’s clinical and surgical practice at Toronto Western Hospital

Takyee Tung
Clinical Research Coordinator

Is our clinical research associate who oversees the operations of the surgical clinical trials in addition to managing the brain tumor bank and academic programs of the MacFeeters-Hamilton Neuro-oncology Program.

Severa Bunda
Ph.D.

Severa is studying the role of transcription factors and transcriptional repressors in the pathogenesis of glioblastoma.

Pardeep Heir
Ph.D.

Pardeep is studying signalling-dependent post-translational modifications of key transcription factors and transcriptional repressors in glioblastoma.

Sheila Mansouri
Ph.D

My background is in molecular biology and virology, specifically working on microRNAs regulating the life cycle of herpesviruses. I joined the McFeeters-Hamilton Center for Neuro-Oncology Research in August 2014 and since then I have been analyzing the microRNA processing machinery and its role in glioblastoma development and progression.

I am also a medical writer involved in writing, editing, and publication of our lab’s clinical and basic science research manuscripts.

Mamatjan Yasin
B.Sc. M.Sc., Ph.D.

Scientific Associate in Computational Genomics

His areas of focus are: Tumor classification (Pan-cancer analysis) based on 22 cancer types and over 6000 patients from TCGA / Classification analysis framework for MGMT methylation & validation against MSP – golden standard / Methylation, Gene expression, Copy Number Variation (CNV), Single Nucleotide Variation (SNV), Gene Fusion / Patient data analysis based on supervised classification and unsupervised clustering, patient survival analysis and finally identifying biomarkers / Tumor Classification Framework with R including modelling, feature/biomarker selection and analysis

Shirin Karimi
Romina Nejad
